Shift selector illuminated plate fitting for BMW E32 & E34, all models with automatic g/b

 

This unit provides illumination to the shift selector panel.  The unit employs several small chip LEDs and microcomputer control.  A special noise signal is used to prevent line noise from generating false-starts or miss-operation.

 

1.         Field of application

 

The microprocessor reads your car selector type automatically and displays the correct selector illumination pattern by LEDs.

 

2.         Introduction

 

This device comes preset with the optimum illumination of the shift selector plate. Two variable controllers allow the user to set the brightness of the illumination mode and selected mode lamp panel.

 

3.        Safety instructions

 

In developing this unit special attention was paid to operating safety and easy of use. The appliance is resistant to moisture, dirt, various oils and liquids as well as small mechanical jolts.

                                              

4.        Installation Steps

 

To install the unit please follow the procedure given below. Please be careful with any electric wires or connectors to prevent shorting.

 

 

1.        Please be careful to park your car on a flat area; you will have to be able to move the shift selector freely.  First set the parking brake before commencing the installation.  Insert and turn the Key to Steering lock release position and hold it and press the brake pedal. This will allow you to move the gear selector to 1st or 2nd position for removal of the shift handle. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


2.        After pulling out the shift handle, ease out the S/E or S/A switch by a small plus driver, and release the connector.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


3.        Put your finger into the switch hole and pull up the wood panel from the hole side side; slide the wood panel forward  and then lift it over the the shift stub very carefully from the back and remove it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


4.        Please find 2 connectors (one connected to the shift selector and the other to S/E or S/A switch). Then cut or splice into the cable  all four cables to the shift connector. The other three cable must be connected to ACC illumination and ground, you can find illumination and ground line at S/E or S/A switch but they donft have any ACC line. So please find out ACC line something like Radio unit or another connector.  In the photos shown below, my car had one free white connector in which the green line was for ACC -- I cut it to supply the unit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


5.        There are two types of BMW original selector panel, please check which type of panel you have. If yours is the earlier type,  you'll need to cut the original panel slightly (see cut sample photo). If your panel is the later model you donft have any extra fitting work, it is very easy to install the LED panel.

6.        After connecting all cables, please fit it to the panel.  Move the shift selector to parking position and turn the ignition on for LED panel test.  If your electrical connections are fine, it will  correctly light up. (If something is wrong or the system can not understand your car, the red LED will flash many times as an alert.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


7.        Please move the shift selector to test all position with illuminated on mode (night mode).  If you would like to change the brightness you can reset the variable resistors; NOTE.  they are very small so please be gentle with them.

 

 

8.        After all tests are finished and you are happy with the unit,  remove the white protective tape from the double-sided adhesive tape on the top indicator board and then carefully position it on the LED panel and press down for a good fit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


5.        System settings

 

This system is fully automated and supports all types of 4 speed and 5 speed gearboxes with AGS/EGS.

 

You can adjust the brightness by resetting the two variable controllers.

 

                VR1        night time illuminated LED output control

                VR2        selection position LED output control

 

This system doesnft sincronaize with illumination dimmer control,  if you setting dimmer control darker than high level position, panel illumination light doesnft lightup or make flushing.  So please make fit control dimmer level until illumination better light up.  If you donft like changing dimmer control, you have another choice for use this system. You may connect illumination line to ACC line so illumination keep lightup any position to move dimmer control, but in this case illuminatio will lightup all the time when you driving daytime. J

 

6.         Upgrade

 

If you or your friends have knowledge about microcomputer programming, you can easily modify or upgrade the unit by software tuning/modification.
